REPAIR BEFORE REPLACING
Find the fault. Fix the cause. Test the whole system.
We check the automation, wiring, mechanical movement, access controls and safety devices before recommending work. You receive a clear explanation and an agreed price before the repair begins.
COMMON GATE PROBLEMS
Faults we diagnose and repair
We investigate the actual cause before recommending parts or replacement work.

Gate will not open
Power, control-board, remote, release and motor faults affecting gates that are completely unresponsive.

Noisy or uneven movement
Worn hinges, alignment problems, damaged tracks and motors that are straining, overheating or stopping.

Safety and access faults
Photocells, safety edges, intercoms, keypads and controls that trigger incorrectly or fail to respond.
HOW IT WORKS
A straightforward four-step repair
No repair begins until the fault and likely cost have been explained.
01
Initial phone diagnosis
We gather the symptoms and advise on any immediate safety precautions.
02
Engineer inspection
The motor, controls, wiring, movement and safety devices are tested.
03
Clear repair quote
We explain the cause and agree the price before beginning chargeable work.
04
Repair and safety check
The fault is repaired and the complete gate system is tested before we leave.

REPAIRS FOR MOST MAJOR BRANDS
Repair the problem—not just the symptom.
A gate that starts moving again is not necessarily safe. We inspect the wider system so damaged safety equipment, worn mechanisms or incorrect settings are not left behind.

Electric gate repair FAQs
1. Why is my electric gate not opening or closing?
Common causes include a power-supply fault, flat remote battery, obstructed photocell, damaged wiring, control-board problem, worn motor or mechanical misalignment. A gate may also stop because its safety system has detected an obstruction. Check for visible obstructions and confirm that the property has power, but don’t dismantle the motor or bypass any safety device. An engineer can test the complete system and identify the underlying fault.
2. How much does an electric gate repair cost in Glasgow?
Our standard repair call-out costs £100 plus VAT and includes the first hour on site. Additional labour is charged at £50 plus VAT per hour. Replacement parts are charged separately when required. We inspect the gate, explain the fault and confirm any additional costs before carrying out further chargeable work, so you can decide whether to proceed.
3. Do you offer same-day electric gate repairs in Glasgow?
Yes, same-day repair appointments are available across Glasgow and surrounding areas, subject to engineer availability. Gates that are stuck open, preventing access or presenting a safety risk are given priority where possible. When contacting us, provide your postcode, gate type, manufacturer if known, and a brief description of the problem. This helps us prepare for the visit and bring potentially suitable parts.
4. Can you repair electric gates installed by another company?
Yes. We repair electric gates whether we originally installed them or not. Our engineers work with many established automation, access-control and safety-equipment manufacturers. We begin by inspecting the entire system rather than assuming that one component is responsible. If possible, send us photographs of the gate, motor, control panel and any displayed fault code before your appointment.
5. Why does my electric gate open but refuse to close?
A gate that opens but won’t close often has an issue with its photocells or another safety device. Dirt, vegetation, condensation, physical damage, misalignment or faulty wiring can interrupt the safety circuit and prevent closing. Carefully remove any obvious obstruction and clean the photocell covers. If the problem continues, don’t bypass the sensors—book a professional inspection.
6. Why does my electric gate stop or reverse halfway?
Unexpected stopping or reversing can be caused by an obstruction, misaligned photocell, increased mechanical resistance, damaged track, worn hinge, incorrect limit setting or motor fault. Wind and water ingress can also affect exposed systems. Stop repeatedly operating the gate if it’s moving unpredictably, making unusual noises or striking anything. Continued use could cause further damage or create a trapping hazard.
7. What should I do if my electric gate is stuck open or closed?
Keep people, pets and vehicles away from the moving parts and check only for obvious obstructions or a loss of power. If you know how to use the manufacturer’s manual-release system, you may be able to move the gate safely by hand. Never force the gate against the motor or attempt electrical repairs yourself. If the gate appears damaged or unsafe, isolate it and contact an engineer.
8. Can an electric gate be opened manually during a fault?
Most electric gate systems have a manual-release mechanism operated by a dedicated key or lever. This disengages the motor so the gate can be moved by hand during a power cut or system fault. The exact process varies between manufacturers. Use only the instructions supplied with your system and never force a heavy or damaged gate. Contact us if the release is jammed, inaccessible or unfamiliar.
9. Do you repair gate motors, remotes, sensors and intercoms?
Yes. We diagnose and repair electric gate motors, control boards, power supplies, photocells, safety edges, remote controls, keypads and intercom systems. We also investigate damaged hinges, tracks, rollers and gate alignment. Where a component can’t be repaired economically, we’ll explain the available replacement options and obtain your approval before ordering or installing new parts.
Repair is usually considered first. Wiring problems, capacitors, limit settings, controls and individual components can sometimes be repaired without replacing the complete motor. Replacement may be more sensible if the motor is severely damaged, obsolete, unsuitable for the gate or repeatedly failing. We diagnose the cause and compare the repair and replacement options before recommending any major expense.
11. How long does an electric gate repair take?
Straightforward faults may be diagnosed and repaired during the first visit, particularly when no specialist parts are required. More complex electrical, mechanical or control-board problems may take longer. If a replacement component must be ordered, we’ll make the system safe, explain the next step and arrange a return visit. The fault and likely cost will be discussed before additional work begins.
10. Is it better to repair or replace an electric gate motor?
